Brittany and her son, Carter, moved into their home this past summer. We invite you to learn more about their journey.

Brittany is a Greensboro native and a graduate of the Early College at Dudley High School. Following high school, she studied Communications at UNC Charlotte, but had to take a brief four-year break from college when she had her son, Carter, now 10 years old. Focused on completing her degree, Brittany commuted from Greensboro to Charlotte two days a week to attend 8:00 a.m. classes while also working full-time. Her perseverance paid off and Brittany graduated and went on to obtain a Master’s Degree in Integrated Marketing Communications.

As she began working, Brittany longed for her own home. Despite completing multiple first-time homebuyer trainings, Brittany wasn’t making any progress toward homeownership. As Brittany shared, “I had exhausted all my options and couldn’t do it on my own. I thought ‘there is somebody out there who could help single mothers, there has to be a program.’ Thankfully and gratefully, I came across Habitat, because it wasn’t happening on my own.” Brittany applied to Habitat Greensboro’s Homeownership Program and was accepted.

Through the program, Brittany has worked with volunteers and had the opportunity to advocate for Habitat in Washington DC through the Habitat on the Hill program. Of the experience, she shared, “Seeing people donating and volunteering just to give back … I want to be a part of that. When I get to a point in my life, I want to donate because I’ve been there. I love how people are authentic and genuine about ways that they give back.”

Now a proud homeowner, Brittany still volunteers with Habitat Greensboro on the weekends to help others achieve their dreams of homeownership!
