On Saturday, May 14, Habitat Greensboro dedicated its fifth of six initial homes to be built in the Willow Oaks community. The home was dedicated for the Vasquez Family – Isayris and her daughters, Trinity and Milani.
As the attendees gathered under tents to combat the steady rain, Habitat Greensboro President and CEO David Kolosieke greeted everyone by sharing, “Welcome on this beautiful rainy day, but the rain is a very important part of seeds that are planted and things that grow. So we’re very thankful to be here this morning to celebrate the dedication of this home.”
Indeed, the seeds of a new future for Isayris and her two daughters were celebrated as family, friends, Habitat Board members, donors, and volunteers joined together to dedicate her future home.
Those gathered also took a moment to celebrate the generosity of Mary Gay Brady and the late Don Brady, who sponsored the home on behalf of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. In his comments on behalf of Our Lady of Grace, Deacon Jack Yarbrough reflected on the Brady’s impact on the community, sharing, “Their lives reflect that they took Jesus at his word, always asking the question ‘will you love them?’ Making sure all that they knew were cared for. Our community has been blessed by the lives of these two, and now it is for us to be dedicated to continuing the Brady tradition of caring for our community and our fellow brothers and sisters.”
The grandson of the Brady’s, Sean Farley, continued this legacy of caring in his comments as he welcomed the family to their new home. Reflecting, “To have a home, there’s nothing better. A place to plant your roots, bring your family into, welcome the stranger, and love your neighbor. It’s a blessing, and I ask that God bless you.”
As the program drew to a close, future homeowner Isayris shared her thanks and gratitude to everyone in attendance and all who helped her on the path to homeownership. Moved by the occasion, she shared, “This is creating a lifelong experience for my daughters and I, and we are truly grateful. This is a blessing that words can’t explain.”
Isayris will soon close on her new home and begin paying an affordable mortgage. All Habitat Greensboro partner families are guaranteed that their mortgage payments will be no more than 30% of their income. This provides families with an opportunity to build wealth and increases opportunities to invest in themselves. For Isayris, she plans to pursue her real estate license so that she can help others obtain their own dreams of homeownership.
