We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities tailored to different interests and skill levels:
- landscaping: Done on the Habitat Greensboro Build Site, all volunteers for landscaping must be age 15 or older.* Only certain Build Site dates will offer landscaping, and dates will be released close to when the opportunity is available. Reach out to jriedell@hhgg.org and join an email list that will notify you when a landscaping opportunity has been posted!
- construction: Done on the Habitat Greensboro Build Site, all volunteers for construction projects must be age 16 or older.* Each community Build Site date will offer this opportunity.
opportunities for volunteers from 5 to 95 years old
- baffles: In the process of building homes, our team places baffles in the attic rafters. These pieces of cardboard assist with air flow and ventilation. Groups can request a set of baffles (50 pieces) to be delivered to a location of their choosing to decorate. Volunteers in the past have drawn beautiful pictures or covered their baffles with prayers or words of encouragement. Our team will deliver the baffles to you and come to pick them up when they are complete. Your group will need to provide the location and craft materials necessary to complete the task. This opportunity is perfect for any age group.
- seed starters/flower pot painters:
OPTION 1: Available in late winter and early spring, Habitat Greensboro will provide seed starting kits to interested groups. Volunteers will start the seeds at home or in a classroom by following the directions provided to them. Once the seedlings are of a certain age, our team will come to pick them up and the seedlings will be planted outdoors at the homes of our new Habitat Greensboro families. If your group would like to participate in the planting process, please let us know in case that can be arranged.
OPTION 2: Available all year round, Habitat Greensboro will provide small terra cotta pots and seeds to interested groups. Habitat Greensboro staff will distribute terra cotta pots, potting soil, and seeds for herbs or other indoor plants to groups of kids. The groups will provide the decor for the terra cotta pots and can decorate them however they choose. Once the pots are decorated, the seeds may be planted inside. When the seeds have reached a certain age, Habitat Greensboro will retrieve the potted plants and distribute them to homeowners.
Although this is free, we do ask for a $3-5 donation to cover materials. - individual fundraisers/gift cards: A more self-motivated option for those who would like to support our mission is to create your own individual fundraisers. Proceeds from individual fundraisers will be used to purchase gift cards that are given to the homeowner families at the dedication of their completed home.
- prayer cards: Habitat Greensboro has prayer cards featuring our homebuyer families. These prayer cards highlight prayer requests or intentions that the family may ask for and can be distributed at schools or in church groups. Children of any age can take a card and offer the family up in their daily prayers.
- thank-you cards: Habitat Greensboro couldn’t operate without the devoted and selfless work of our construction crew as well as our Weekday Crew, a team of retired community members who volunteer multiple times a week on our Build Sites. At your request, we can provide a list of names of either our Construction Crew or our Weekday Crew if children would like to craft thank-you cards for all the hard work that these people put into our mission. Completed cards can be delivered to our main office at 3826 W. Gate City Blvd or a Habitat Greensboro team member can pick them up once they are completed.
- welcome cards: In addition to gift cards, community members can contribute hand-made welcome cards to our homebuyer families to be distributed during the home dedication. At your request, we can provide a list of the families and the names of each family member to your group so that cards can be crafted for each individual.
