With Governor Cooper moving the state into Phase 3 of reopening at 5:00 pm tonight, Habitat Greensboro is now officially allowed to welcome our community volunteers back.

However, to ensure that we are taking all necessary precautions, we have decided to take a phased approach to scheduling volunteers. The Weekday Crew, who join us every Wednesday and Thursday, have been back on-site for several months now and we have been extremely grateful for their hard work and support. Over the next few weeks, we will have several groups joining us on our construction sites for special projects, as we work through our new safety measures. Our goal is to resume a more normal schedule for both Construction and ReStore volunteers toward the end of this morning or early next month. Once our normal schedule resumes, volunteer opportunities will be posted on our Galaxy volunteer portal and you will receive another email notification.

What can you expect on the construction site?
To ensure everyone’s safety, we will be implementing a few changes.

  • Our build sites will have fewer volunteers. Currently, we are operating with no more than 10 people at a build site. We anticipate increasing this number, but likely to no more than 20 people on-site at any given time.
  • You will be asked to complete a COVID screening before volunteering. This may be completed online through our Galaxy volunteer portal.
  • All volunteers will be asked to wear a mask while on the worksite and to bring your own work gloves, water bottle, and lunch.

Changes to Scheduling and Check-In
To ensure that we do not exceed our on-site limits, all volunteers will need to register online for their volunteer shift. If no spaces are available for a specified opportunity, you can be “waitlisted” and notified if a spot opens up.

We have also implemented a touchless check-in system. Once you are registered, you will receive an email confirmation. Then, at 6:00 am the day of your shift, you will receive an email check-in notification. Simply follow the on-screen directions to “check-in” for your shift. We will still convene at 8:00 am sharp for a welcome, morning devotion, and safety review before beginning the day on the build site.

We are so grateful for your support and understanding as we work to determine our new normal. To register for volunteer updates, please click HERE. If you have any questions, please email volunteers@hhgg.org.

Our team has been closely monitoring the escalations surrounding Coronavirus / COVID-19, and are taking every precaution to protect you, our team, Habitat Greensboro homeowners, future homeowners, and the community for whom we deeply care.

This is an increasingly difficult time for people, businesses, and organizations across the country and our community. As a nonprofit that relies entirely on the support of others, please know we are making these difficult decisions prayerfully—but we need your help. Here are the protective measures we have enacted:

Administrative Offices

  • Here’s what we’re doing.
    • Our administrative office is currently closed to the public effective.
    • Our staff are working remotely, replying to phone calls, voicemails, and emails during this time. Any meetings will be held remotely.
  • Here’s how you can help us.
    • We urgently need your financial support. As businesses throughout our community are impacted by closures, so are many Habitat Greensboro homeowners who make their family’s living in the service industry. These families will certainly be concerned about continuing to make their mortgage payments. We are committed to working with each family during this uncertain time, but we need your financial support to sustain us in that. Please consider any financial support possible and click here to give a gift online or see other ways to give. When you give, you’ll help us do more to help them.

  • Here’s how you can help us.
    • ReStore is a key part of how we build homes with local families and this downtime will certainly be a hit to that effort. We will urgently need your donated items when we return. If you’re planning a donation drop-off, please hang on to your items and drop them off when we open again.

Join Together in Prayer

  • This pandemic vigorously impacts the most economically and physically vulnerable members of our community, so please join us in praying for those who are ill and those who struggle financially. Pray for our government leaders and medical professionals. Pray for protection over our entire community.

Speaking for myself and Habitat Greensboro, I thank you for your patience, understanding, and prayers during this challenging time. I am confident that, with your help, Habitat Greensboro will emerge stronger than ever.
